LEISTON progressed into the FA Youth Cup First Round for the first time since 1954 on Monday evening.
Lee Harrison’s side fell a goal behind on 21 minutes but went close to a leveller in the first half through Ollie Long and Stan Horne, who hit the crossbar.
But six minutes into the second period Ashton Rayworth levelled the tie with a neat finished inside the box.
Both teams had chances to win it, with Horne going close again and substitute Will Hart having a header excellently saved and the player also hit the crossbar late on.
During the shootout, Jack McLeavy, Liam Shaw, Ashton Rayworth and Andrei Cusca netted their penalties for Leiston, while Nathaniel Copping saved two spot kicks to earn Leiston a spot in Round One.
Thanks to everyone who came to support the team tonight, in a crowd that was well over 100.
Also a mention to Aveley FC, who were gracious in defeat.
Leiston can look forward to the First Round draw which will be made on Friday afternoon.
Lee Harrison’s team now look forward to their next match which is next Tuesday (20th October) when they entertain Bungay Town in the Suffolk Boys Midweek Under 18 Cup First Round, 7.45pm kick off.
