Neil Smye’s team lost 3-1 at home to Old Newton United on the opening day of the Gateway 14 SIL Premier.

An early goal from captain Ollie Griggs put Leiston ahead but the away team levelled late in the first period.

Old Newton then got a second with around twenty minutes to go before the away side sealed the three points with a third goal with time nearly up.

Leiston Under 23’s now head to Junction Meadow on Wednesday night for an early season local derby, kick off 6.30pm.
