BRUCE Grobbelaar was the star of the show as the Blues put on a terrific Sporting Dinner at the LTAA on Thursday night.
The Liverpool legend goalkeeper was in good form, reliving the story of his life as he became one of the planet's most recognisable and successful-ever goalkeepers.
From his upbringing in Zimbabwe through to his time at Liverpool, and many other clubs and places in between, Bruce had the crowd mesmerised with his stories, including his famous ‘spaghetti legs’ performance in the 1984 European Cup final, where he did enough to put off Roma players in a dramatic penalty shoot-out
The sell-out crowd enjoyed not just Bruce's stories, but jokes galore from comedian Ian Richards, a fine three-course meal, a complimentary drink from Fishers Gin on arrival, on what was a very successful evening for the Club.
The auction, including a signed Tyson Fury boxing glove, kindly arranged by Steve Jordan of Jordan Fencing, raised fantastic amounts, as well as a heads and tails game and raffle.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the night, either through donating auction prizes, bidding, buying tables and raffle tickets, or by just being there. Thank you and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We are now all looking forward to Thursday, November 26, when Matt Le Tissier will be our guest speaker at our next Sporting Dinner... details will follow in the summer.
