The Blues progressed in Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup against Bury Town after Ben Fowkes’ late goal on 88 minutes sent Chris Wigger’s side into the second round, and set up a date at home to Lowestoft Town.
Ex-Blues keeper Charlie Beckwith made numerous saves in the first half while in the second period, Leiston hit the bar through Ollie Yun and Harley Curtis put over from close range.
Bury Town themselves hit the crossbar with time running out but Fowkes’s goal from Ismael Fatadjo’s cross put Leiston ahead.
In stoppage time, Billy Johnson made two super saves to set up a date with the Trawlerboys.
Thanks to the Blues supporters who made the journey tonight in front of a crowd of 338.
The Blues can now look forward to a first home Saturday league game for 11 weeks this coming weekend when Stamford visit (3pm kick off).
