LEISTON defeated Cheshunt this afternoon to progress into the Second Round Qualifying stage of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.
Adam Mills missed an early penalty after just 3 minutes but Willie Clemons put the Blues ahead, from Mills’ cross, three minutes later.
After starting well, the hosts, who sit third in the Isthmian Premier Division, came back into the match and levelled after the half hour when Matthias Fanimo shot home from close range.
After an even second half, the Blues took the lead on 73 minutes when substitute Ben Fowkes finished well after a good dribble into the area.
Late on, Cheshunt put the Blues under pressure, forcing three corners in four stoppage time minutes, but the Leiston defence held firm.
Thanks to the Blues supporters this afternoon for their terrific support, in front of an attendance of 206.
Chris Wigger’s side are next in action on Tuesday night when they head to Crown Meadow to take on Lowestoft Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup First Round (7.45pm kick off).
