Game 2/42.

The Blues make their first away trip of the season this weekend as they head to Coalville Town, looking to build on Tuesday night’s Emirates FA Cup performance against Biggleswade Town.

The side reached the Second Round Qualifying as they ran out 5-1 victors, thus going into the hat for the next round where they will be joined by teams from the National North and South.

Blues joint boss Chris Wigger said of Tuesday nights win: - ‘I think the lads let out their frustrations and anger tonight as I think it showed on the pitch this evening’, Chris told Victor Holloway. ‘Everyone knows that we are capable of that second half performance in the changing rooms. I think if Will Davies hadn’t had scored his goals tonight then Harry Knights would certainly be up there once again as a man of the match contender. The rest of the back four were also excellent with Matthew Weaire coming in from Colchester and the two full backs bombing on also. Will has come in tonight and taking his chances brilliantly and hopefully we can get a home draw again in the next round.’

Leiston have drawn both league matches at Coalville Town in their history. In December 2018, Matt Blake’s double secured a point while in January this season, a late Kyran Clements goal helped share the points in a 1-1 draw. The Blues famously played at Coalville in March 2011, losing 1-0 in the FA Vase Quarter-Final.

Coalville drew 1-1 against Bromsgrove Sporting last weekend in their opening league fixture, while they defeated Sheffield FC 2-0 on Tuesday night in the FA Cup. They were very much in the play-off hunt when play was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile this weekend, Leiston Reserves host Cornard United in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North (3pm kick off) while the ‘A’ side are at home to Somersham Reserves at Alde Valley Academy (2.30pm kick off).

The Blues U18’s progressed into the next round of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night as they beat Mildenhall Town U18’s 6-0. Goals from Mason Sinclair (2), Grant Overett, Ollie Godbold, Ash Wilding and Drew Connick helped the side reach the Second Round Qualifying stage, a match in which they will be at home to Saffron Waldon Town U18’s after they beat Gorleston U18’s 8-1 tonight. The tie is set to be played on Thursday 8th October.
