Captain agrees new deal as he looks to reach 500 appearances

'I keep myself fit and it would be unbelievable to reach 500 games and who knows, maybe I can go beyond that milestone.'
- Seb Dunbar

BLUES captain Seb Dunbar is looking ahead to the new season at The Flannery Stadium, which could see the defender reach the 500 appearance mark.

Dunbar, who first joined the club in the summer of 2012, 14 years ago, is on 471 club games as things stand.

“From a club and team point of view, I don’t think we are far away from a being a top side," Dunbar said, having committed himself to the Club for another season.

“I think we lacked a little bit in certain areas last season but it was a decent season considering how many players we had lost in the previous off-season. From a personal point of view, I thought I had a good season and my performances were consistent. Hopefully this year my form will continue to be high and this benefits the team.”

Dunbar, who missed just the one match in all competitions - at Barwell in the league - last season, had a spell with Bury Town between 2013 and 2014 and played for Stowmarket Town for two seasons between 2019 and 2021. But apart from that it's been all Leiston.

He knows the 500 mark would be quite an achievement.

“I keep myself fit and it would be unbelievable to reach 500 games and who knows, maybe I can go beyond that milestone," he added.

Seb and his partner recently welcomed a baby girl into the world, so he has had little down time in recent weeks.

“To be honest, I haven’t been doing much relaxing. I’m hoping to get away soon but my hands have been full of late and we are thrilled to have a baby girl. I’ve been getting my fitness in with games of padel, which is a game I enjoy."

And in terms of goals for the season ahead, Dunbar is setting the bar high. “I’d like to win the Suffolk Premier Cup, reach the First Round of the FA Cup and try to get in the play-offs again, that would be a dream season," he said.

With the World Cup upon us, we asked Seb about his predictions.

“I think England will get to the final but lose and my team to watch out for is Portugal," he said.
