Eggs Benedict... And where's Arsene Wenger when you need him?

Eggs Benedict... And where's Arsene Wenger when you need him?

Dunn's Pit6 Mar - 14:00

The Talk on the Terraces this week has been set-pieces and making the most of a free Saturday

THERE really is nothing more disappointing than arranging away travel and accommodation only for the game to be called off.

Of course, clubs can’t change the weather. But last weekend saw on overnight stay in a Travelodge just outside Bedford (other hotels are available), for Tick Tock and I, with then no football to watch. Or so it seemed.

Thankfully, Bedford is nicely centrally located so after a stress-free train journey up on the Friday night, the pair of us searched the local paper on Saturday morning seeking a game while frequenting a local café.

First choice, Kempston, had a familiar P-P attached, when Tick Tock, stuffing his Eggs Benedict, said, ‘what about Woburn Abbey?’, a local team a few steps down the pyramid.

So, we supped up our cortados and headed off.

It was a cracking game as well, goals a plenty and some fine local produce to enjoy at the interval.

A fish and chip supper and back to Leiston in time for Match of the Day. While we couldn’t celebrate a Blues win on our travels, our scouting prowess may come in handy for a return trip, whenever or if ever that may be.

ISN’T it strange how many goals this season are from set pieces in the Premier League?

Despite all the modern-day technology and hundreds of this coach and that coach, clubs are benefitting on the good old-fashioned long throws and corners to boost their goals for column. Tony Pullis is no doubt loving it.

But why are clubs suddenly so self-reliant on the old-fashioned method? What has happened to the free-flowing football creating chances and stunning goals? Where’s Arsene Wenger when you need him?

It seems clubs must be spending a great deal of time on the training grounds preparing to overload the area at corners and just to cause mayhem in the box to ensure a goal is scored at any cost.

The set-piece has always been effective so is it any surprise it is now having a resurgence
It’s not pretty, but it brings goals. And goals are what we all want.
