Blues boss: 'Fantastic fans' and Stamford test

Michael Bacon7 Feb - 07:00

Leiston travel to Lincolnshire and will take with them plenty of support

'We have had some good battles over the years. They are organised and hard-working.'
- Chris Wigger

LEISTON first team manager, Chris Wigger, has said his club's fans are doing a 'fantastic' job for the team.

Seventh-placed Blues head to sixth-placed Stamford on Saturday with the play-off race tight and every point a prisoner. And the Blues will be bolstered by a coachload of fans heading to Lincolnshire as interest in Leiston's play-off hopes continues to rise.

"The fans are doing fantastic for us right now," Wigger said.

"The atmosphere last Saturday against Redditch was unbelievable. Going down to 10 men early, we could feel the fans getting behind what we were trying to achieve on the day and understood the way we were trying to play.

"It created such a good atmosphere. If we’re going to bring so many tough teams to Leiston, which we are in the final few months of the season, we are such good people who create such a nice atmosphere but during that 90 minutes we need to be a certain way and I really felt that last week."

SKIPPER SEB DELIGHT....

Wigger knows Stamford will provide a big test.

"Stamford will be a real tough game," he said. "We have had some good battles over the years. They are organised and hard-working. Then we've got Telford, Bedford, Halesowen and Kettering still to play and they’re all battling for top spot above us.

"But the closer we can keep in contention with those guys, it brings us a bit closer in the mix."
