BLUES defender Wyatt Hill has said he and his team-mates want to make sure the season doesn’t fizzle out and are determined to finish strong.
Leiston were beaten 0-2 at Stourbridge on Saturday in a game that saw Chris Wigger’s side go down to 10 men just before the break when goalkeeper Billy Johnson was sent off.
The Blues were already a goal down and it made for a tough second half.
“It was a scrappy game,” Hill said.
“The sending off kind of killed us and being a goal down it was always going to be a battle going into the second half. But we showed resilience and worked hard to the end which was a testament to the team.”
Leiston have three games left, nine points up for grabs and, while the final play-off place currently being held by Stamford (65 points) sees the Blues six points behind them on 59, the math tells you a play-off spot is still possible for the Blues, even though it is not in their own hands.
On Saturday, fourth-placed Halesowen are the visitors to Leiston. The first of three wins would be essential for the Blues.
“We want to make sure we don’t let the season fizzle out,” Hill said. “We want to put in good performances and finish the season as strongly as possible and see where we end up.
“In football anything can happen, so as long as we do our bit, we will let the rest decide itself.”
