International and domestic goals going in for Rangel

BLUES midfielder Joao Rangel admits he is really enjoying his football right now, having helped the Blues to victory over Sudbury in midweek, following on from an exciting international debut for Timor-Leste.

Rangel, who signed from Lowestoft Town in pre-season, netted his first ever senior goal against the Philippines in the Asia Cup Qualifiers for Timor-Leste. The team went on to lose 3-1 but Rangel’s goal put Timor-Leste ahead... (watch it here).

“My first international call-up and debut was an incredible experience”, Rangel said, after the Blues beat AFC Sudbury in league action on Tuesday night, in which the Blues player netted Leiston’s final goal to give them a 3-1 win.

“Being away with the team was something really special, and playing against a top side like the Philippines where pretty much every player is professional was a great test for me personally.”

The Blues player, who has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals, added: - “It was a real learning curve and a valuable experience overall. On a personal note, I was pleased with how I performed, and to score my first international goal against such strong opposition was a wonderful bonus and a moment I’ll never forget.”

Back to domestic action, Rangel is looking foward to the Blues FA Trophy clash at Sudbury this weekend: - “I’m really enjoying my football at the minute, feeling confident and just focused on helping the team," he said.

"Tuesday was a good test and a solid performance from the lads, we showed good character. Now it’s about carrying that into Saturday’s FA Trophy game, and hopefully getting the result we want.”
