SO the full-time whistle has literally sounded up and down the country bringing an end to the Step 3 and 4 seasons.
In Leiston’s league we bid farewell to play-off winners AFC Telford and a 400-mile round trip next season! I text Tik Tok as soon as I knew the result... he charged me £80 petrol for our trip there this season just gone... I couldn't be bothered to argue as he only told me near Solihull the cost, and threatened to turn round and go home if I didn't cough up!
Trips up the A12 to Lowestoft and the A1 to face Barwell, plus the sub 100-mile trips to Biggleswade and Hitchin are all gone. However, instead of four local derbies next season, we’ll get six with Bury Town and Needham Market back in the mix bringing the total to four Suffolk sides in the Southern League Central Premier.
Looks like Berkhamsted to return after a year away and maybe new grounds to visit in the shape of Quorn, Real Bedford and Worcester City (oh good, Worcester isn't far!)
However, next month will see the FA committees meet to rubber stamp all the outcomes, so expect surprises and appeals, but either way, we will all be counting the days until it kicks off again in around 14 weeks.
Now, why is it every time we get a few days off work the weather decides to change?
Lovely weather all week, cold and windy for the extended weekend. I would say it’s a recent thing but actually I can recall trips to the seaside as a youngster on the first Bank Holiday in May and having to enjoy a picnic in the car due to the inclement weather. Crumbs everywhere.
And whatever happened to fetes?
Back in the good old days you could always guarantee a huge turnout for a local fete, a real community event. Let’s start a campaign to bring back Bank Holiday fetes….as long as it’s after the local football season has finished of course.
Well, that's all from me for this season. I hope you've enjoyed some of my Terrace Tales! Tik Tok is off to Oman for a yoga holiday. Apparently his doctor told him he needs to stretch his body out a bit. He reckoned all the travelling in the Morris Minor was the problem, not enough leg room. He's 5ft 4in!
I won't miss his moaning for a couple of months!
Happy summer to you all now!
