LEISTON first-team head coach, Lee Norfolk, hopes his side will end tomorrow night with ‘no regrets’ as the Blues entertain National League Dagenham & Redbridge in a mouth-watering FA Cup fourth qualifying round clash, at Victory Road tomorrow afternoon, 3pm kick-off.
The winners of the tie will be in the FA Cup first round with the chance of a tasty draw against League opposition, including the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham and Charlton Athletic. Leiston have been in the first round before, but Norfolk knows it’s a stiff test they face.
“It’s the biggest test we have faced with another new squad of players,” Norfolk said.
“It will show how far we may have progressed in a short space of time and what lessons we can take from it no matter what the result.
BIG MATCH PREVIEW… BLUES V DAGGERS
“It’s been a mixed approach to the week, games and training. We have a few players coming back from injury, some needing fitness work and some lighter sessions.”
But it’s having no regrets come 5pm tomorrow night, Norfolk is hoping his team have against a Daggers side who currently sit 13th in the National League table.
“I just hope come the final whistle, Leiston fans have seen us win the game with no injuries, can look forward to Monday’s draw and my biggest expectation is that we have no regrets, and we have given everything.”
Leiston knocked out Step 2 Hornchurch in the last round with a terrific performance in the replay in Essex, a late Jamar Loza double sealing the win. Norfolk knows that result was a boost to the squad.
“We have a quiet confidence about us, but that Hornchurch result strengthened that. We will not confuse confidence with complacency, because we know we need to be diligent in every department.”
NOSTALGIA: LEISTON AND THE FA CUP 4TH QUALIFYING ROUND
Leiston will be hoping for a few injured players to return to the squad, while a big crowd is expected with it also being international weekend and no Premier League or Championship action.
“I have always wondered if it should be the fans who lift the team or vice-versa,” Norfolk said. “Either way if they can both be in harmony on Saturday, it will help us on the pitch.”
