'Our 12th man'... Jackson praises fans with Blues' season hotting up

Michael Bacon17 Feb - 15:45

Eddie Jackson is proving a big fans' favourite, he's back from injury and part of what is proving a mean back four.

'Confidence is high in the group as you would expect.'
- Eddie Jackson

BLUES defender Eddie Jackson knows Leiston have come a long way this season – and they are not finished yet.

Jackson and his team-mates are on an eight-match unbeaten run that has propelled them into the Southern League Premier Central division play-off positions. Their most recent win, a 2-1 victory over Spalding Town on Saturday, was another polished performance, coming on the back of fine wins over Redditch Town and Stamford in recent weeks.

The Blues head to AFC Telford this Saturday, the Shropshire-based side sitting second in the table. Jackson can’t wait for that next challenge.

“There are still plenty of games left of course, but where we are now shows how far we have come this season; taking one game at a time we’ll see where it takes us,” he said.

“Telford on Saturday will be a tough fixture of course, but we’ll go there and give them a run for their money. Confidence is high in the group as you would expect.”

Jackson reflected on a good win over Spalding and admitted the fans at Leiston are providing the team with so much support right now.

“Credit to Spalding, they gave us a tough fixture on Saturday,” Jackson said. “But I think it’s fair to say the best team on the day won.

“Good back lines win you leagues, and good attackers win you games. Our midfielders are very much doing their thing right now as well, and it’s a very good environment.

“Our fans at Leiston are proving real quality. It’s great when they get behind us which they certainly have even more in recent games. They can be like a 12th man, and us players really appreciate it.”

Jackson has had his fair share of injuries this season, including a fractured foot and concussion. But he hasn’t had to miss too many games and his performances for the Blues continue to impress.

He summed it up when he added: “We’ve got a good squad, a good chairman, good manager and coaching staff, we all want to do well and win trophies.”
