Perhaps Harry has got the right idea!

Perhaps Harry has got the right idea!

Dunn's Pit20 Mar - 08:00

The talk on the terraces this week was a novel idea by former One Direction man, Harry Styles, and an annoying trip to Stamford

HARRY Styles, he of One Direction and now solo fame, staged a one-off performance in Manchester just recently and made it a ‘no-phone zone’.

It certainly got me thinking whether this would be a benefit in football.

All too often these days at all sporting events, but especially football, people seem to be trying to ‘capture the moment’ as, when the camera moves to the crowd, hundreds of phones are pointing towards the action.

But is this taking away the punter’s enjoyment?

Are people enjoying the ‘here and now’ rather than prepping the phone to capture what they hope will be the all-important money shot.

Nowadays, at most high-level sporting grounds, mobile phone coverage is not great, so the chances are that a particular picture or video will have to be downloaded and uploaded later anyway, so it’s hardly the ‘here and now’.

I understand why people want to take pics and videos, it’s a personal preference, but maybe Harry was right, his show being captured in the attendee’s memory rather than their phones.

But could we see this happening at football matches? I doubt it!

As I have said before, it’s a long ‘ol way back to Leiston after a defeat.

In the grand scheme of things, Stamford doesn't seem far seeing as most of our trips are in and around Birmingham, but the journey home last Saturday was hard work.

Ignore the roadworks and other delays, we had just been beaten on our travels, and it was a sour taste. When we lose there's only one thing for it ...food!

A stop-over at Cambridge Services used to be an exciting rarity, now it seems to be every other week, so much so I have a wallet full of loyalty cards and know exactly where the loos are. The selection of food never lets you down, but my favourite is still the ‘golden arches!’

I certainly needed that Happy Meal to improve the mood after the loss.
