Peter Douglass is doing a charity 7 in 7 challenge to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease. Here's why.

'As with most things in life it is the high profile people who gain the most media attention but there are thousands of ordinary people whose lives have been blighted by this awful illness.'
- Peter Douglass

OUR very own Peter Douglass is taking on a charity challenge in aid of Motor Neurone Disease.

Peter, who has worked in many roles at Leiston FC, including secretary, treasurer and reserve team assistant manager, has already run the pre-Christmas Sizewell Parkrun in a Santa costume! He is now setting himself a new challenge of completing 7 in 7.

The basis of the challenge is to complete 7km each day for 7 consecutive days by running, cycling, walking or some combination of the three. The number 7 is inspired by rugby league legend, Rob Burrow, who has sadly been stuck down with MND – Burrow being a sports star Peter and his family have much admired over the years.

Peter takes up the story.

“In 2000 I saw my first live rugby league game when my wife and I took our daughter to university in Leeds. The game was Leeds v Castleford.

“Leeds became our team to support and we have been fortunate to have watched them at their peak.

“The tragedy of Rob Burrow contracting MND has been tempered by the strength shown by his family and the inspiration of the lengths his friend and former team-mate, Kevin Sinfield, is willing to go to, not only to raise money for MND research but also to raise the profile and awareness of the awful disease.

“Only recently another rugby legend, Doddie Weir, finally lost his battle with MND and more locally former Ipswich Town favourite, Marcus Stewart is now sadly suffering the illness.

“As with most things in life it is the high profile people who gain the most media attention but there are thousands of ordinary people whose lives have been blighted by this awful illness.

"I am starting my challenge on Saturday 8th April and am planning to walk 7km, cycle 7km and run 7km with the run finishing at Victory Road just prior to kick-off of the game against Barwell. I will do a bucket collection around the ground on the day and I would be thrilled if anyone could visit my just giving page and sponsor me. Thank you.”

Both Peter and wife Jill are Vice Presidents at Leiston FC. We wish Peter all the best with his challenge. Let’s give him our support.
