THERE’S little doubt if Leiston fans had to pick a player who has made a big impression in a short space of time at the Flannery Stadium this season, then Ronnie Blois would be right up there.
The 19-year-old striker, who joined the Blues from Dereham in the summer, has already won over the fans at Victory Road as makes what has been a big move for him up to Step 3.
Goals, effort and a willingness to work hard up front has seen him become a Blues favourite already. So, how is taking to life at Leiston?
“I’ll be honest, it has taken a while getting used to the levels and getting used to the group, but slowly after a few games you get up to speed. I’m enjoying it now,” he said.
“I had no clue at all what the level was going to be, but I’ll be honest I’ve impressed myself a little bit. I’m enjoying it and just want to get better.”
Playing up front has seen Blois face some big centre-halves in a league that is renowned for its physicality. So, how does he find it?
“I’m not huge, but I’m quite big and can handle the physical side of things,” he said.
“But we play quite a bit of football, so I don’t always need the physicality. I’ve got a few goals, well, a few tap-ins, which is nice to do in a new team. It settles you down. They are the little goals I thrive off. They all count and I know how important it is to be in and around the six-yard box.”
It was Blues player/coach Ryan Jarvis who had a big input in Blois coming to Leiston. Chris Wigger has known Blois as well and monitored his early progress. Something the young striker acknowledges.
“Yes, I’ve known Jarvo (Ryan Jarvis) a long time, being part of the Norwich set-up. He and the gaffer (Chris Wigger) have put faith in me. I think they know I’m going to make mistakes. I’m young, but I’m trying to do as much as I can.
“I’m in the team and have kept my place, which I think I have earned.
“The hardest thing is just the sharpness of everyone. You have a touch and players are on you straightaway; there’s little time. I give it to the other players to do their thing, and I’ll hopefully be in that six-yard box for a tap in!”
So, at only just 19, what are his future hopes?
“It’s always a dream to be a full-time footballer, isn’t it? he said.
“And it’s always in the back of my mind, but now I’m just enjoying being at Leiston and why not? It’s a great club, with great fans. I’m not the loudest guy in the changing room; there are plenty of others for that.
“But the all the squad have made me feel at home and welcome.”
