BLUES player/coach Ryan Jarvis says he still gets a buzz out of taking to the pitch, as well as coaching and supporting the younger players.
The experienced former Norwich City man, who made more than 35 appearances for the Canaries and scored in the Premier League against Liverpool during his time at Carrow Road, has taken to his new player/coaching role this season at the Watson & Hillhouse Stadium, with relish.
“I’m really enjoying the role of playing and coaching, it’s a great group of lads to play alongside and to coach,” the former England U16/17 and U19 player said.
“The team plays some attractive football which is nice to watch and be involved in and hopefully the fans and people connected with the club enjoy it to. There’s a good mix in terms of age and experience and it’s great to see young players flourishing.
“Yes, the coaching role is definitely the route I’d love to pursue when my playing days finally end, but hopefully that’s not just yet as I still get a buzz every time I play.”
Jarvis admitted the Blues started their Southern League season slowly but, having now picked up, are looking ahead to a fruitful second half of the campaign.
“This season was a bit slow getting going, but sticking to our principles we have picked up in performances and results,” Jarvis, 38, said.
“I don’t think we fear any side and when we’re at it as a team we’ve never been outplayed. We will stay focused on reaching our potential each game and maybe we can take a closer look in the New Year where we’re at. A good season would to be to improve on last season’s efforts.”
Still enjoying his involvement on and off the pitch at Leiston, Jarvis says he is looking forward to many playing days ahead and will always likely stay in the game.
“At my age I don’t take any training session or game for granted, I enjoy supporting the younger players that want to learn and ask questions,” he said.
“Of course, I love playing and while I’m capable I’ll continue to do so as best as I can.
“Once my playing days are finally over, I can’t see myself going into a different career path as I love the game too much. I’ve been coaching almost nine years at Norwich City Foundation, I’m enjoying it here at Leiston, and I hope to stay in the game, keep working hard and continue learning as a coach.”
