WEDNESDAY sees the end-of-season finale of Suffolk's Premier cup competition.
The chance for the Blues to grab some silverware and bring back Suffolk’s premier trophy east for a third time. It will cap a hard-earned campaign that has certainly seen more highs than lows for the Blues.
Oh wait, hang on…it’s not the end of the season, there’s a month left. Silly me!
Shame the final couldn’t have been played not only at Portman Road, but as a climax to the 2024/25 season on a day of the week that would have attracted a very large attendance.
Unfortunately none of those wishes could be aligned. Maybe during the next post season, the end of season final dates can be arranged in advance... easier said than done, I know. But it would be nice. I've got my tickets anyhow!
Well, it seems that every time the mighty Leiston get a decent attendance against decent opposition they get a bit of stage fright.
All those additional newbies who popped along on the off chance last Saturday as the Blues went toe-to-toe with Bedford Town may have walked away thinking what all the fuss was about.
However, if you were one of those people and you're reading this, trust me you didn't seen the ‘real’ Blues who have turned in some excellent performances this season.
Yes, the result last Saturday was not what we wanted, but this is a little plea to those supporters who came along on the off chance... 'one swallow doesn’t make a summer'... please keep coming back to see what is regularly happening on and off the pitch at Victory Road, I’m sure you’ll soon become a regular.
Tik Tok has treated me to a Sporting Dinner ticket at Leiston on Thursday, April 24 (only a few are still available, the chairman has just whispered in my ear).
The great Peter Shilton, a goalkeeping legend if ever there was one, is the guest speaker and I can't wait to listen to his stories and tales.
Apparently, Tik Tok was a goalkeeper in his pomp, so he told me on the way to Alvechurch the other week. He also told me he holds the record for conceding most goals in one game for his Sunday morning side, Atlas Titans FC who, you won't be surprised to know, are now defunct!
"We lost 16-3 and I was to blame for only two of them, so it wasn't my fault," he told me as we looked at some YouTube video of greatest-ever Sunday morning 'keepers, while stuffing a KFC 12-piece bargain bucket at Corley Services on the M6.
What a surprise, and so Tik Tok ... never on time and never his fault!
