LEISTON boss Chris Wigger says his side are going to continue to push for a play-off spot, buoyed by last week’s win over Worcester City.
The Blues beat Worcester 1-0, an early Willie Clemons goal sealing the points. And, while they still have work to do in the Southern League Premier Division Central, as they sit eight points off the play-offs, Wigger says his side aren’t throwing in the towel.
On Saturday, Leiston are at home to Banbury United at the Flannery Stadium (3pm ko)
“We are going to draw on many of the positives from the Worcester game,” Wigger said.
“The players don’t want the season to peter out. Yes, we’re an outside bet for the play-offs, but it is still achievable and we acknowledge that. A serious run between now and the end of the season, practically all wins, would no doubt put us into a play-off spot – and in good form as well.
“I remember Rushall Olympic doing just that in the year that we reached the play-offs and lost narrowly to Nuneaton. So, we’re still in the mix until it is impossible for us to do it.”
This Saturday is Non-League Day and many non-league sides up and down the country will be celebrating and hoping fans of Premier League and Championship sides will support their local club.
“My passion is non-league, so to celebrate it with like-minded people at a great club like Leiston is important to me,” Wigger added.
