Blues boss targets play-offs but knows his team need to do more

'So, the only way we are going to push into the top five is to turn draws into wins.'
- Chris Wigger

LEISTON boss, Chris Wigger, has said his team are very much capable of reaching the Southern League Premier Division Central play-offs, but they need to quickly turn draws into wins.

The Blues currently sit in ninth place in the table, four points off the play-off picture.
However, they have incredibly drawn as many games as they have won so far in the league (12). And Wigger knows that will need to change as the Blues start their run-in.

On Saturday, Leiston entertain Warwickshire-based Stratford Town at the Flannery Stadium, kick-off 3pm, in a crucial encounter. Earlier in the season Stratford took all three points in a 2-1 victory in Bard country.

“There are some good sides in the play-off mix, including ourselves,” Wigger said.

“But we must understand to push ourselves into that play-off bracket we need a good run of wins. Five or six on the bounce preferably, is what is going to be needed by us.

“We have teams below us and above who are going to be there or thereabouts. So, the only way we are going to push into the top five is to turn draws into wins and get the points necessary.”

It’s just one defeat in nine in the league for Leiston now after their 3-0 win at Sudbury, Fraser Alexander, Ronnie Blois and Joao Rangel with a special 25-yard strike, were all on the scoresheet that day.
