Wigger sets out his stall as season heads towards an exciting climax

Keeping focused is key, says Leiston boss

'My excitement comes from being connected to the main group and knowing we’ve potentially got something to chase.'
- Chris Wigger

BLUES boss Chris Wigger has said keeping focused and not looking too far ahead will be key as Leiston head into the last three months of the season.

The Blues sit in seventh place in the Southern League Central Premier Division, just three points off the play-offs. On Saturday they head to Stamford who sit one point and one place about Leiston.

It's building up to an exciting climax, but Wigger wants feet firmly kept on the ground.

"Getting into the last three months of the season, of course the closer we stay to the main pack the more exciting it gets," Wigger said.

"But in all honesty, I think this league if far too tight to get excited about anything. My excitement comes from being connected to the main group and knowing we’ve potentially got something to chase.

"I think the important thing is to keep our feet on the ground and understand there are lots teams in better positions than us, but we’re also operating in a league where you can see a run of three or four decent wins, or decent games or decent performances can push you up a bit.

"We need to continue ticking off games and putting in good performances. There are going to be times when games go against us and we’re going to feel aggrieved by that, but that’s just football.

"There will also be times when we will have opportunities to pick up wins and points and we must be focused on the team in front of us to do that.

"We cant’ keep thinking about the next game or what we’ve got coming up or what the end of the season might look at. If you don’t beat the team in front of you, then the end of the season isn’t going to look especially good."
