U18's progress in County Cup

Leiston progressed in the Suffolk Under 18 Midweek Cup with a cracking 10-0 victory over Stowmarket Town. The Under 18's have now scored 33 times in their first six matches of the season in a fantastic start.

Leiston started off well and Toby Chenery put a good ball in the box but Ben Hicks in the away goal parried the ball to safety. Adam Blades then done well to get away from his marker but his shot was straight at Hicks. Adam Blades and Toby Chenery would have further attempts that were well kept out, while Joel Mayhew would have Stowmarket Town's first shot on goal but it was wide of the target. Guy Blades would put Leiston into the lead on 21 minutes when his low drive from the edge of the area beat Hicks and went into his bottom right hand corner. Good link up play between Adam Blades and Adam Chenery ended with Joe Murphy having a shot well blocked by a Stowmarket defender. Joe Murphy was involved a little while later when his cross from the right found Hayden Ling but again Hicks did excellently to keep out his header. Toby Chenery and Adam Blades had great chances, with Hicks doing exceptionally well to parry Adam Blades' shot past his right hand post. Hayden Ling did well to evade a challenge and Carl Mayhew's looping pass fell nicely to Toby Chenery but his lob went just inches wide. Jac Garrard had an effort that Hicks did well to keep out once again. Stowmarket could have levelled when a break away saw Henry Lockwood hit a volley that Charlie Beckwith done well to spread himself and keep out. Jac Garrard's blocked challenge saw the ball ricochet off his boot and into Adam Blades' path and this time he was to make no mistake and he took the ball around Hicks to slot in an empty net in the last minute of the half.

At the start of the second period Stowmarket were in on goal but Henry Lockwood unfortunately handled the ball to give Leiston a free kick. Leiston made it 3-0 when Adam Blades' run down the left hand side saw him square a ball back to Carl Bowers who had the easiest of tasks to tap the ball in the unguarded net. Just a couple of minutes later and Adam Blades was fouled in the area by Ben Hicks, with the referee doing the right thing and not awarding a red card to the keeper. Adam Blades stepped up to send Hicks the wrong way to make it 4-0. Sub Owen Pierce scored next after Guy Blades' lay off as the goals were now raining in. Adam Blades claimed his hat-trick to make it six just moments later. Carl Bowers then set up Adam Blades with a delicate through ball that Blades latched on to well to smash past Hicks. Carl Bowers added an eighth goal with a cracking effort on his right foot and Bowers also claimed a hat-trick when on the left hand side just outside the area he shot this time with his left foot, to see the ball thud against the bar and over the line. Charlie Beckwith was then alert to Henry Lockwood to make a good block. The final goal of the night saw Owen Pierce get in on goal and delicately chip above the onrushing Hicks to make it ten.
