Six out of six now for the Under 18's

The Under 18's returned to league action with a trip to Whitton United after last weeks disappointing defeat in the FA Youth Cup to Cambridge City. Leiston were without Adam Chenery, so Josh Roberts and Josh Pierce came into the squad respectively.

Leiston started the match well having good possession of the ball and took the lead in the 7th minute. Good work by Adam Blades who put in a through ball splitting the centre-halves saw Ben Snowling take the ball well and put the ball under keeper Joe Potter. Whitton captain Lewis Jimpson fired over for the home side with their first attempt on goal before Leiston created another opening this time Ben Snowling set up Jac Garrard but his low effort was pushed around the upright by Potter. Nabbard Mahmond played in Carnell Dines and he smashed wide of the target. Charlie Beckwith did well to punch away a Ben Stannard free kick. Adam Blades headed over the bar from Jac Garrard’s corner and Ben Snowling forced another stop from Potter. In the 23rd minute, Leiston made it 2-0 when Adam Blades finished from close range after good work by Jac Garrard. Moments later Leiston scored again when Adam Blades turned provided for Toby Groom who netted well. Jack Mappleback squandered a decent chance while at the other end Jac Garrard lobbed over when well placed just before the interval.

Two minutes into the second half, Charlie Beckwith caught well from Jack Mappleback‘s free kick. Leiston were second best early on in the half and Whitton were awarded a penalty on 64 minutes. However, Charlie Beckwith dived full length to his right hand side and pushed Lewis Jimpson’s penalty away to safety. Substitute Jamie Smith had Leiston’s first attempt of the second period but Joe Potter saved with his legs. Antonio Nikolov’s delivery was met by Sam Quinton but he could not convert. Nikolov then crossed for Teddy Cooper and his header was brilliantly pushed over the crossbar by Charlie Beckwith. Leiston added a fourth goal with Jamie Smith dribbling around a couple of players and shooting high into Potter’s top right hand corner. Hayden Ling saw his right footed strike pushed out by Potter to Jamie Smith and he tried to lob the home custodian but Potter got back well and tipped over. Beckwith saved well again from Jack Mappleback in the last action of note in the match.
