U18's return to the top of the table

The U18’s moved back to the top of the Thurlow Nunn League Central Division after a 4-1 victory against local rivals Framlingham Town.

Leiston started the better side and took the lead in the 7th minute. Adam Blades was adjudged to have been fouled and from Jac Garrard’s free kick, Lukas Darling netted from close range giving away keeper Billy Cager no chance. A minute later and Carl Mayhew’s delivery from the left flank was nearly turned into his own net from a Framlingham defender. Jac Garrard’s corner nearly went in at the far post but it was cleared off the line. Another Jac Garrard corner from the right hand side was header straight at Cager from Alfie Norman. Charlie Beckwith was off his line well to deal with a long ball in his first action of the match, before Leiston doubled their lead. Carl Mayhew was brought down by a rash challenge in the penalty area and Charlie Canham made no mistake from the spot, guiding the ball low into Cager’s bottom left hand corner. Cager caught a corner from Jac Garrard, but the visitors came back into the game as the half wore on. From a free kick on the edge of the Leiston area, Will Aldis tried his luck with a flicked shot but it was easy for Charlie Beckwith. Cager clattered into Jac Garrard on the edge of the box that saw the Leiston player receive treatment and Cager was booked for his foul. Alfie Norman headed the set piece wide.

Both teams took a while to get going at the start of the second period, and Leiston were unlucky not to be awarded another penalty as Joe Murphy looked to have been brought down in the box and Jac Garrard just fired wide of Cager’s right hand post. Just before the hour mark, Will Aldis reduced Fram’s arrears as he struck a brilliant shot from 25 yards giving Charlie Beckwith absolutely no chance. Once again, Cager claimed well from another Jac Garrard corner and Will Aldis was booked for kicking out at Carl Mayhew as both teams started to make silly fouls. The away side forced a couple of corners with Levi Chapman heading wide from Will Aldis’ corner. It was Leiston, however, who grabbed the all important fourth goal of the match. A good ball in by Ben Snowling was retrieved by Jac Garrard and he glided into the box and smashed into Cager’s bottom right hand corner. Ethan Hayward put wide from a half chance as time was running out. In the second minute of additional time, Jac Garrard turned in the box well to smash past Cager to wrap up all three points. Sub Joe Moore was unlucky not to score in the last minute but Cager saved at the second attempt.
