U18's within touching distance of first title

The U18’s took another step to becoming champions of their respective league with a comfortable 3-0 win over Ipswich Wanderers. It means they need just two more points from their remaining four league fixtures. In fact, the title could be won in midweek if other results go there way.

Ipswich Wanderers nearly took the lead in the first minute. Jack Anderson was put in at an angle but his shot went onto the roof of Charlie Beckwith’s net. Leiston, playing in red for the evening, took a while to get going. Their first move ended with Jac Garrard crossing from the left but no one was there to meet the ball. Alfie Norman failed to get good contact on a corner and Wanderers cleared. At the other end Jake Hughes had an excellent chance in the box but Charlie Canham blocked superbly. Jac Garrard’s corner was punched away well by home keeper Pacey Laughlin before Toby Groom crossed from the right but Adam Blades headed over the bar. Ben Snowling’s surging run into the box was parried away for a corner by Pacey but from Jac Garrard’s corner, Alfie Norman headed home in the 32nd minute. Jac Garrard, who made his league debut for the first team Tuesday evening, attempted a shot in the area but Pacey was down smartly to his right hand side. The Blues looked as though they would score a second goal but Ipswich Wanderers eventually cleared after a goal mouth scramble. However, the second goal came in the 43rd minute. Another Jac Garrard corner was stabbed home by Adam Blades to settle any nerves. Straight from the restart, Joe Moore’s delivery from the right flank was met well by Toby Groom but Pacey made a great save to get the ball over the bar. The last action of the half saw Jac Garrard smash a free kick on the edge of the area that Pacey touched onto the bar and away for a corner.

Within two minutes of the second period Ben Snowling found Joe Murphy but he couldn’t keep his header down and the ball went over the crossbar. The home side had a great chance to pull a goal back, but Will Stobbart put his shot wide of the target. Adam Blades put Pacey under pressure and he pulled back to Jac Garrard but he dragged his strike wide of Pacey‘s left hand post. Adam Blades (pictured) then dispatched his 17th goal of the season for the U18’s when he ran into the box and placed under Pacey to virtually all but guarantee the points. Carl Mayhew shot wide and Adam Blades was denied by the impressive Pacey and Charlie Beckwith saved well from Alex Koufalis. Clear cut chances were kept to a minimum late in the game as Leiston were happy to tick off another game and three points.
