A new look Under 18 side took to the pitch at Hadleigh United in their first match of the season.
Regan Partridge had the first chance for Hadleigh and the contest as a whole, but his shot was the wrong side of Harvey Garnham’s post. Good link up play between Owen Pierce and Toby Chenery saw Leiston have their first glimpse of goal, but Jamie Colcomb in the hosts goal collected easily. The home side took the lead when they were awarded a penalty as McGuckin brought down the attacker and Ryan Chidlow made no mistake from the spot as he lashed home. The same player had an effort well saved by Garnham moments after the restart while at the other end Joe Murphy threaded a ball through to Ollie Seymour but he planted his strike into the side netting. The last action of the half saw George Crowe fire over when well placed, and Seymour shot just over the crossbar.
Sonny Tene was thwarted two minutes into the second period by Harvey Garnham, but Regan Partridge slotted in the rebound. Substitute Callum Moody saw his chance saved by Colcomb, and Garnham saved excellently from Crowe, palming his thunderbolt onto the bar. Ryan Chidlow made it three and effectively ended the contest as he netted from close range, and Crowe himself made it four with a tidy finish. Joe Murphy and Toby Chenery went close late on for the Blues, but the young side couldn’t get a consolation goal.
