The U18's went down to a decent Needham Market U18 side on Thursday evening at Victory Road. Harrison Bacon had an early effort, but Owen Eldson dealt with the shot comfortably. Ryan Pitt tested Brandon Ling in the home goal but he was equal to his effort, and Ling was also down to the follow up shot by Roman Carvell. Josh Leggett was put in by Witness Mhango, but he couldn't take advantage, while Owen Pierce dribbled into the penalty area but was denied by the impressive Eldson. Eldson made a great save shortly later, getting a good hand on a vicious Joe Murphy strike. From the corner, Owen Pierce's delivery was volleyed just over by Toby Chenery. Both teams had chances before the interval, but both defences stayed on top to deny them any real good opportunities.
A good move at the start of the second half by Owen Pierce and Joe Murphy enabled Witness Mhango to have a chance but Eldson was down well to deny him. In a clean game refereedwell by Gareth Moir, Needham took the lead in the 63rd minute. Poor Leiston defending let in Roman Carvell to score. Leiston did not give in though and kept going until the end, creating some good chances. Needham sub Kadir Akbaba grabbed a goal to double the lead, but Josh Leggett was fouled in the area to give Leiston a lifeline. Harrison Bacon scored, but Moir made the penalty to be retaken due to encroachment inside the penalty area. Eldson this time saved the spot kick, but Bacon scored the rebound. Terry Wasswa's shot was saved by Brandon Ling, and somehow Carvell hit the bar from yards out. In the final five minutes, Leiston forced a couple of corners but could not score an equaliser.
The U18's travel to Whitton United for further league action this coming Thursday.
