Late comeback from young Blues earns point

The U18's came back to score two late second half goals to gain a deserved point at Dellwood Avenue against the Seasiders.

The game was just four minutes old when Leiston fell behind. Joe Hunt struck a free kick from outside the box that gave Brandon Ling in the away goal no chance as it sailed into his bottom left hand corner. The same player got in behind the Blues defence moments later but Ling saved well to his right. Leiston started to knock the ball around well without creating any real chances. Lewis Dyer shot wide for Felixstowe when well placed before Witness Mhango was foiled by Ollie Fisher in the home goal and Owen Pierce a little later shot straight at Fisher. Seven minutes before half time, and after Leiston didn't deal with a corner, Josh Lee stabbed the loose ball home to make it an uphill task for Leiston. The Blues defended well before half time as Joe Hunt had the last effort of the half that Brandon Ling saved.

The Leiston midfield started to get on top in the second period, with Joe Murphy dictating things in midfield and Toby Chenery and Harry Eyre controlling matters at the back. Owen Pierce's crossed from the left which Joe Murphy could not get on the end of. Leiston did get a goal back in the 73rd minute. A cross from the left saw the home player bundle over the goal line. This lifted Leiston. Play was stopped for a few minutes as Felixstowe captain Sean Munro was stretchered off to hospital with an injury. In the 90th minute Toby Chenery beat the keeper to the ball to header in the equaliser. Sub Pearse nearly netted the winner but Fisher blocked well in the home goal. Felixstowe tried also for a winner and forced a couple of corners and free kicks that Leiston defended well and Kai Fletcher had a chance in the 7th minute of stoppage time, but he dragged his effort wide as both teams settled for a point.

FT - Felixstowe & Walton U18's 2 Leiston U18's 2

Leiston FC would like to wish Sean Munro a speedy recovery after his injury for Felixstowe and we hope he is back playing as soon as possible.

The point means Leiston now have 10 points from 10 matches in the league, and remain 7th (out of 11 sides) in the league table.
