The U18’s finished 2018 off in style against high flying Framlingham Town at Badingham Road.
Leiston nearly took the lead in just the second minute as home keeper Oliver Garner cleared only as far as Owen Pierce, but after rounding the keeper Garner got back well to divert the ball over the crossbar. Harrison Bacon headed wide from the corner. A precise ball by Josh Roberts found Owen Pierce who laid the ball on to new signing Josh Smedley and he shot narrowly wide of Garner’s left hand upright. The Blues did however take the lead in the 15th minute. Hayden Ling’s good work on the left ended with him finding Harrison Bacon who controlled well and found the back of the net. Garner produced a fantastic save after a long distance shot by George Fricker. Charlie Coe had Fram’s first real shot of note but Brandon Ling saved excellently down to his left. Owen Pierce’s free kick was met by Josh Smedley and Garner again made another great save. Leiston created some more decent chances as the half came to an end, but Framlingham had a great chance to level with Ethan Hayward missing the target when in a great position. The last action of the half saw Garner save from Hayden Ling.
The U18’s doubled their lead in the 52nd minute. A good breakaway from Leiston on the left and Hayden Ling found Witness Mhango who finished into Garner’s bottom right hand corner. The lead would only last three minutes though as Charlie Coe headed in a free kick. George Fricker struck wide and Harry Eyre found the keeper, while Stan Brooks tested Brandon Ling but the keeper saved easily. The home side did force some half decent chances but Leiston defended well. Jake Conway missed a great oppurtunity late on and Leiston could have made the game safe in the fifth minute of stoppage time but Garner saved sub Zac Gissing’s effort. It did not matter though as Leiston held on for a win which keeps them 6th (out of 11) sides in the league.
