Blues go nap at Green Meadow

Leiston U18’s moved up a place to 5th in the table last Thursday night with a convincing 5-0 victory over Stowmarket Town.

The hosts had the first chance of the match as Jordan Rolls forced Brandon Ling into a finger tip save. Harley-Jordan Smith then shot over from a free kick as Leiston started the game slowly. Rolls forced Ling into another decent save before Toby Chenery came off in the 8th minute due to a hamstring injury. Leiston took the lead with their first real effort in goal in the 13th minute. Good play by Harrison Bacon and Owen Pierce on the left hand side ended with a good ball into the box and Witness Mhango headed into the net. The game started to get scrappy, with a lot of misplaced passes from both teams and balls being over hit. Joe Murphy and Harrison Bacon allowed Owen Pierce to have an opportunity but keeper Ben Hicks saved. The U18's doubled the lead with five minutes of the first half remaining. Pierce's corner wasn't dealt with and Harrison Bacon smashed home from close range. Stowmarket nearly got themselves back in the match before the break, but after Brandon Ling punched away a corner, Harley Jordan-Smith hit the crossbar.

Joe Berry shot straight at the keeper just two minutes into the second half, and then headed Pierce's corner over the crossbar. An excellent run by Alex Clark down Leiston's right hand side saw him unselfishly pass to Ben Skipper but he could only find Ling in the away goal. The Blues had a great chance to net another as Josh Smedley burst through on goal, but with the goal gapping, Owen Pierce could only hit the bar. A Brandon Ling long kick evaded everyone in the home defence and Harrison Bacon lobbed the ball over the keeper to tap the ball home for goal number three. Sub Jack Peachment headed just wide as Stowmarket tried their best to get back into the match. Josh Smedley made it four with a neat finish while Owen Pierce had an effort well saved. Dale Pearse hit the bar as the Blues pressed for another goal, but Josh Leggett made it a nap hand as Pierce's shot was again kept out, but Josh Leggett applied the easy finish. Leiston had a couple more chances but they were more than happy to get another win.

They host Whitton United U18's on Thursday evening at Victory Road.
