The U18’s lost their first league match since December, a run of six matches unbeaten, as they went down 6-2 to an excellent Needham Market U18’s side.
Aaron McGuckin was off target in the first chance of the match for Leiston, while George Clayton-Leek wasted a good chance for the hosts moments later. Harvey Garnham then did well to keep out efforts from Clayton-Leek and Jamahl Godward but Jack Stopher did put the ‘Marketmen in front from a corner in the 10th minute. Garnham made some good saves as the half progressed, but goals from Evan Collard, George Clayton-Leek and a brace from Callum Page put Needham 5-0 up at the break.
The second half started off bad also for the young Blues side as Jamahl Godward scored just three minutes into the half. However, Leiston fought till the end, and restricted Needham to less chances as the match went on and defended a lot better. Sub Konnor Fletcher scored a consolation goal for Leiston and with two minutes of normal time to go, Josh Leggett scored from an acute angle inside the box but Needham thoroughly deserved their win on the night in the end.
