Last week, Leiston U18’s won 4-0 at Felixstowe & Walton United U18’s. Read below the report, written by Rick Kerry.
The young Leiston under 18’s travelled to Felixstowe & Walton United U18’s fresh from their home win against a tough Framlingham Town match. After beating the Seasiders 6-3 in their opening game of the season, Rick and Matt were well prepared for a tough match. Felixstowe pushed hard from the start and if it wasn’t for some last ditch defending and a quality double save from Harvey Garnham, Leiston might well have been two goals down. Managers Rick Kerry and Matt Morling were forced to make changes after fifteen minutes when Grant Overett was forced off with a groin injury. Shortly after they changed to a more familiar formation and Leiston were rewarded when Hayden Brown was on the end of a great cross to put Leiston a goal ahead. Leiston were now in full flow when Reece Kerry jinxed past two players in the box and his shot/cross was well headed home by Callum Pearce. Ash Wilding intelligently pressured the Felixstowe keeper into a mistake and Ash Wilding slotted home to take Leiston into half time with a 3-0 lead.
After the break, Leiston pressured Felixstowe with a string of attacks with Hayden Brown hitting the bar and Callum Pearce hitting the post but superb play with Ash Wilding getting the ball under control and pin point a cross for Reece Kerry to head home under pressure to add a fourth Blues goal.
Leiston then absorbed some intense pressure from the home side but some resolute defending and a man of the match performance from Josh Bailey saw Leiston hold on to keep a hard earned clean sheet.
An excellent team performance from the young Leiston under 18’s sees them sit top of the league by five points. We will enjoy it at the top and relish the game against Ipswich Wanderers but with feet on the ground we know there will be tough oppositions to play to try and stay there.
