Leiston ‘A’ defeated Bildeston Rangers 7-0 on Saturday, Trevor Elmy writes the report: -
Leiston, playing their first ever game at Alde Valley Academy, made a positive start to the game and it was no surprise when Josh Bailey, who was totally unmarked, headed home a Ben Morling header in the 12th minute.
Just a minute later, a fine run by Hayden Brown ended with him shooting past the Bildeston keeper and increasing Leiston’s lead. With Max Cowan, Reece Kerry and Iuri Fernandes dominating the midfield, Leiston continued to exert pressure and on 36 minutes, Ash Wilding converted to make it three. Wilding then missed an open goal having been set up by Brown. As half time approached, Leiston were awarded a penalty for a foul just inside the Bildeston area and Morling duly converted.
Leiston continued with the same tempo at the start of the second half and full back Callum Tucker ghosted into the penalty area to calmly finish to make it 5-0 in the 56th minute. On 67 minutes, Drew Connick broke free down the right hand side and keep calm to beat the Bildeston keeper to make it 6-0.
The Leiston defence were marshalled well my skipper Owen Andrews, along with Kolinio Biaukula, who were resolute as they were determined to keep a clean sheet. The warm weather began to take its toll and the pace of the game dropped but Brown went close to getting his second before in the 87th minute, Drew Connick got his second of the game to make it seven. Leiston were awarded a penalty for a handball but Harvey Garnham put his kick went wide of the right hand post.
Leiston can be very pleased with their performance with all players contributing.
Next week, the ‘A’ side visit Needham Market ‘B’ in SIL Division 4.
