The ‘A’ side made it 7 points from their first 3 league matches at the weekend at Needham Market ‘B’, writes Trevor Elmy.
Leiston scored seven for the second successive week as they produced another excellent performance on a very dry and hard pitch which made controlling the ball difficult.
Leiston started positively and it was no surprise when Drew Connick put them in front after seven minutes. Needham were gifted an equaliser just four minutes later via an own goal. This didn’t deter Leiston as they continued to press and Kolinio Biaukula powered in a header after 19 minutes from a corner. Grant Overett then grabbed two in the space of four minutes (27th and 31st minutes) as Leiston took complete control of the game.
Overett completed his hat-trick just six minutes into the second half and was unlucky not to add to his tally when another of his effort hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety. Hayden Brown increased the lead on 64 minutes when he showed great awareness to back heel the ball into the net.
Harvey Garnham had been a virtual spectator in the Leiston goal but he was beaten by a superb 25 yard dipping shot on 74 minutes as Needham pulled a goal back. Hayden Brown followed up last week’s impressive display by getting his second of the match with six minutes remaining to make it 7-2 to the visitors.
This was another fine all round display with Josh Bailey leading by example with an excellent showing at centre back, and Tom Bak showing what a quality player he is with a commanding display in the centre of midfield.
Next week, the ‘A’ side continue their league campaign at home to Bury Town Rams at Alde Valley Academy.
