The Blues head to West Suffolk tomorrow night to face Mildenhall Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup quarter-finals. The Blues will be trying to get Saturday’s defeat at Stratford Town out the back of their minds as their mini run of four games unbeaten came to an end.
Mildenhall Town have been top of Thurlow Nunn Premier lately but slipped down to third place at the weekend as they lost 1-0 to Gorleston at the weekend, who are now top and ahead of Mildenhall by two points.
The sides met in the Premier Cup in the Last 16 in November 2017 at Leiston, with Jack Ainsley scoring while Patrick Brothers grabbed a late winner in the 92nd minute after Dan Neto had levelled the scores. The time before that the Blues won 3-2 at Recreation Way after extra time in November 2007 in the quarter-finals. Leiston played Mildenhall in a friendly in August, with Rob Eagle scoring a late goal in a 1-0 win for the Blues. The last time the sides met in a competitive game at Recreation Way was in March 2011, that saw the Blues win 1-0 thanks to a Michael Brothers goal.
There is one other quarter-final match tomorrow night as Felixstowe & Walton United host Kirkley & Pakefield. Needham Market and Stowmarket Town are already through to the semi-finals.
The Reserves are in league action and host Needham Market Reserves (7.45pm kick off).
The Reserves are 10th at the moment with Needham Reserves in 14th place.
Blues boss Ryan Honeyman said on Monday evening: -
‘Tomorrow evening sees us back in league action with a tough local derby at home to Needham Market Reserves fresh from our Semi Final in the Senior Cup against East Bergholt at Woodbridge F.C on Saturday which saw us win on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the end of normal time. It was really pleasing to see the boys come out on top after 90 minutes against a physical Bergholt team who themselves are having a great season. It was a proper cup tie with both teams giving it everything they had to make the final. Our boys had to dig deep and that as a manager was great to witness. Back to tomorrow night which sees the first of our remaining five league fixtures so it’s important to put the cup on the back burner in order to finish the league campaign as strong as possible to see where that takes us in terms of our final league position. Needham Market who inflicted on us our heaviest defeat of the season so far back at their place in February. Hopefully see as many of you as possible.’
There is one other match in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North as Huntingdon Town host Peterborough North End.
