Blues suffer setback at play off rivals

Leiston's play off hopes suffered a setback following this defeat although the winning margin was a little harsh. For successive Saturday's they have suffered defeat against one of their rivals on their travels, this time against Met Police. Despite the recent rain and frosts the Imber Court surface was in good condition as Leiston welcomed back Danny Block and Darren Mills into the squad but there was no place for Danny Cunningham. Leiston started lively and some fine play from Tom Winter down the right saw a great cross well defended by Steve Sutherland with Leon Ottley-Gooch ready to pounce. The two Leiston players combined soon after with Leon Ottley-Gooch threading a fine pass into Tom Winter but a fine saving tackle from Ricardo Joseph denied Winter an opportunity to shoot at goal. The hosts responded, Joe Turner with a shot just wide of the post. There was little between the sides for the opening half hour or so as both sides seemed to cancel one and other out but the game dramatically swung towards the home side as the half closed. Ten minutes before the interval the hosts took the lead, Charlie Collins curling home around the wall from the edge of the box after a harshly awarded free kick against Tom Bullard. A foul by Patrick Brothers wide on right produced first yellow and from the resultant free kick Bradley Hudson-Odoi headed wide from six yards from a central position. Met Police were now certainly in the ascendancy and in first half stoppage time Collins added his and Met Police' second from the spot following a handball against Tom Bullard that the visitors hotly disputed. Bullard was adjudged to have handled from a header following a deep cross from Matt Pattison as he leapt to head clear. Collins firing the penalty low to the left just beyond Danny Gay’s grasp.

Early in the second half the hosts almost added a third as Matt Pattison floated cross into the box was just headed wide from a tight angle by Bradley Hudson-Odoi. Keen to reduce the deficit the visitors dominated for long spells but couldn't turn their possession into goals. Gareth Heath’s cross picked out Tom Winter from 12 yards but Winter scooped his effort over the bar. Stuart Boardley’s deep cross was headed across goal by Leon Ottley-Gooch into the path of Patrick Brothers but his shot found the side netting. Finally on 71 minutes the Blues pulled a goal back. Craig Parker finding Patrick Brothers just inside the box and after taking a few steps he slid his right footed shot beyond the advancing Stuart Searle. The visitors continued to press and minutes later Craig Parker set up substitute Darren Mills but he fired a shot wide from 12 yards. But as the visitors continued to search for a leveller the home side countered. Danny Gay’s clearance to Tom Bullard was seized upon by Bradley Hudson-Odoi who raced clear to confidently beat Danny Gay and seal the points with eight minutes remaining.
