Game 33/40.

Leiston host Tamworth tomorrow evening as they look forward to playing five of their last eight league games at home. After a cracking victory on Saturday, the Blues remain in 7th place and are seven points off the play-offs at present.

Leiston won 3-1 at Tamworth back in late October as they defeated the ‘Lambs’ for a second time on the bounce in Staffordshire. It will be the two sides first meeting in the league in Suffolk since August 2019 when a late goal by Tamworth condemned the Blues to defeat by a 2-1 score line after Rhys Henry put Leiston ahead after an hour. The other previous meeting in Suffolk saw Leiston draw 2-2 in August 2018, having led 2-0 at the break after goals by Jake Reed and Christy Finch.

Tamworth are currently 14th with 37 points from 31 games and won at Leiston in the Third Round Qualifying in the Emirates FA Cup earlier in the campaign, with Adam Mills netting for Leiston. Tamworth are in unbeaten in their last 5 league matches.

Saturday’s match at Rushall saw Finlay Barnes net his 17th goal of the season and go ahead of Will Davies who has 16.

Leiston have now bettered their best ever points tally in the Southern League. Moving on to 48 points means the side have now got more points than their 47 mustered up in 2018-2019 when they first were moved into the Southern League from the Ryman League.

Blues joint boss Chris Wigger said on Monday evening: -

‘Getting a result when you have players missing is always a great feeling and Saturday’s win at Rushal Olympic was exactly that. It’s a game where myself and Darren would of snatched a point if offered that before the game. But then the performance from the lads was fantastic. We had to be very disciplined out of possession in order to cope with Rushals attacking formation, the team followed our instructions perfectly so that’s very pleasing. Onto Tuesday and hopefully we will be boosted by the return of at least 2 players who missing from Saturday. It was also great to welcome Brendan Ocran back to the squad after a few months out with a knee injury.’

There is just one other league match in the Blues division tomorrow night as Peterborough Sports entertain AFC Rushden & Diamonds (7.45pm kick off).
