Game 39/42.
Leiston are back in home action tomorrow afternoon as they host Barwell in the penultimate home game of the regulation season.
Alvechurch’s 2-1 over Mickleover in the week confirmed the Blues spot in the play-off places, but Leiston will want to keep momentum going and secure a home spot in the play-off semi-finals at the end of April.
Leiston left it late last week as goals from George Quantrell and Will Davies beat Rushall Olympic. It leaves the Blues needing one more win to at least equal their highest points tally at Step 3, which came in the 2017/2018 season. Leiston recorded 79 points but played four games more in a 46 league game season.
The Blues are six points behind leaders Coalville Town, with the Leicestershire side very much firm favourites now to clinch the title. The Blues head to Tamworth to play the ‘Lambs next Saturday for their final away league fixture of the season.
It promises to be an exciting end to the season. Slips for supporters player of the year will be on hand tomorrow afternoon.
FORM GUIDE: -
Leiston: - WDDWD.
Barwell: - WDWLW.
LAST MEETING: - The Blues won 3-2 in Leicestershire on the first Monday in February. Two goals from Ben Fowkes and a Will Davies goal helped Leiston to all the points after Barwell took an early lead after just three minutes.
Leiston beat Barwell last season 2-1 at home in October 2021, with Will Davies and George Quantrell both on the scoresheet. In the sides first ever meeting in Suffolk in September 2018, Barwell won 1-0 thanks to Brady Hicky’s late goal in the first half. Leiston drew 1-1 in March 2020 with Barwell, just before the outbreak of COVID-19, with Rob Harvey on target for Leiston.
FUN FACT: - In 2015-2016, Barwell reached the First Round of the FA Cup for the first time, before going out to Welling United.
