The Blues head to Tamworth for their final away league fixture of the campaign tomorrow afternoon. Leiston’s win over Needham Market on Monday means that they have their highest ever points tally of 82, over taking their previous highest of 79 points in the 2017/2018 season, when Glen Driver and Tony Kinsella were in charge.

Adam Mills’ late goal on Monday kept Leiston in touch with leaders Coalville Town, who are just a point ahead of Leiston with a game in hand. Both Leiston and Tamworth will want something out of tomorrow’s fixture with just a week to go of the season.

The Blues head to Stowmarket Town on Tuesday night, when Leiston play Needham Market in the Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup semi-final.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture, Leiston won 2-1, after falling behind to a Eoin McKeown goal on 24 minutes. But, a goal either side of the break from Ryan Jarvis and Joe Marsden, ensured Leiston held on to a fine win on the day.

LAST MEETING: -
The last meeting between the two sides in Staffordshire was in October 2021 when the Blues won 3-1. Will Davies (2) and Adam Mills were on target that day for Leiston. The Blues lost their first two games at the Lamb Ground. In April 2019, Leiston went down 5-0 with the season nearly done. This was a game in which the Blues failed to win in their final 11 league games of the campaign. In October the following season, Leiston went down 4-0 to Tamworth in the FA Trophy.
However, in January 2020, the Blues pulled off a great 2-1 win, as a double from John Sands ensured Leiston of the points. Tamworth were top of the table, with Leiston struggling at the lower end at the time of this game.

FUN FACTS: -
In arguably their most high profile signing of all time, Paul Merson had a brief stint with The Lambs in 2006. He was only with the club for two match days before announcing his retirement.
Tamworth are called the ‘Lambs’ due to the fact they play at The Lamb Ground; which in turn was named after a nearby pub called the Lamb Inn.
For a while, Tamworth was split in two! The town had two town halls where meetings took place, with half the town situated in Staffordshire and the other half in was in Warwickshire.

The Reserves host Cornard United at HQ’s tomorrow afternoon. They play Heacham on Tuesday in the league, also at home, before heading to FC Parson Drove on the final day of the season. They Reserves dropped to 17th (third from bottom) in the week. Kyle French will make his 50th appearance for the Reserves, if he plays tomorrow.

Cornard are currently 9th in the league, taking 50 points from their 34 games. In December, Leiston beat Cornard 3-2 thanks to goals from Kai Fletcher (2) and Adam Mills.
