OVERVIEW
LEISTON are back on home grass again this weekend as they host Redditch United on Saturday, 3pm kick-off, with both sides looking for victory to keep up their push for the play-offs.
Chris Wigger’s Blues remain eighth in the league despite Tuesday night’s game at Biggleswade Town being postponed.
Redditch United are 11th at present but have won their last two games against Barwell and Kettering Town (both at home 3-2). Earlier in the season in October, the Blues won 2-1 at Redditch. R. Wyatt put the hosts ahead early on but two goals from Jamar Loza ensured the points came back to Suffolk.
Leiston have kept three clean sheets in their last three league games, and last week saw Leiston record their 200th win at Step 3 against Hitchin Town.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS IN SUFFOLK
LEISTON first played Redditch United at Victory Road in August 2018, winning 4-3.
A early goal from the away side saw them go ahead on three minutes but three goals in five minutes from Chris Henderson, Noel Aitkens and Jake Reed helped put the Blues back in front. Redditch fought back after the interval, and scored two goals to level but Byron Lawrence’s late goal sealed the win.
The teams didn’t meet until the 2021/22 season as the two season’s proceeding saw campaigns cut short due to Covid. In 21/22 the two sides met early on and, after Adam Mills had put Leiston ahead, the away side eventually won 2-1.
Ben Fowkes and a Redditch own goal the following season helped Leiston to a 2-1 victory, while last campaign the visitors grabbed a 1-0 win in November 2023.
