OVERVIEW

THE Blues host Halesowen Town in their penultimate home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, 3pm kick-off, writes Craig Cooper.

Blues keeper Billy Johnson has had his red card rescinded after being sent off last weekend at Stourbridge so will be in the squad for the game.

Halesowen Town are currently 4th in the Southern League Central Premier division, four points off the top. They are serious promotion contenders. The teams drew 1-1 at the start of September at Halesowen Town. Lusiama put the hosts ahead three minutes into the second half but Blues sub Kyran Clements levelled on 85 minutes to take a point back to Suffolk.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

THE sides met in Suffolk in October 2018 for their first-ever meeting, with Leiston winning 4-0. Jake Reed, Byron Lawrence, Matt Blake and Christy Finch were on target that day.

Halesowen were relegated that season and the teams didn’t meet again until last campaign, when the Blues won 2-1 in March 2024. Ashley Boatswain netted two goals in the second half and although defender Adam Bailey-Dennis put through his own net late on, Leiston held on to win the match.

HALESOWEN FUN FACTS

THE town had a population of just over 60,000 in the 2021 Census and is considered one of the largest towns in England without a railway station!

Halesowen borders the Birmingham suburbs of Quinton and Bartley Green to the east. To the south is Romsley and Worcestershire, to the north is Cradley Heath and to the west is Stourbridge.

Halesowen Town F.C. are the town's non-league football club and play their home matches at The Grove on Old Hawne Lane. This season they have enjoyed home crowds of more than 3,000 in some games!

Halesowen Town won the FA Vase twice back-to-back in the 1980’s. They beat Fleetwood Town 3-1 in 1985 before defeating Southall 3-0 a year later in 1986.

They have also reached the First Round of the FA Cup nine times in: -
