
OVERVIEW
THE Blues host Barwell this afternoon in league action at the Flannery Stadium.
A good 3-1 win at Royston Town on Tuesday night helped lift Chris Wigger’s side up to 7th in the league table.
Barwell are 17th in the standings, after picking up 11 points from their opening 10 league fixtures. Barwell lost 4-2 at Alvechurch in the First Round Qualifying stage of the Emirates FA Cup this season while they went down 3-0 at home to Bromsgrove Sporting in the Isuzu FA Trophy at the Third Round Qualifying stage.
Adam Mills is suspended for tomorrow’s match against our Leicestershire opponents after accumulating five yellow cards this season. However, Willie Clemons is back from international action with Bermuda in World Cup Qualifiers while Joao Rangel could also be back after playing and scoring for Timor-Leste in the international break.

ABOUT BARWELL
Barwell’s population was just over 9,000 in the 2011 Census, with the average house price in the town was just under £270,000 as of July 2025.
The football club was founded in 1992 and play at Kirby Road. They are nicknamed the ‘Canaries’ and are managed by Jimmy Ginnelly.
Last season, Barwell finished in 19th position but had a reprieve and stayed as a Step 3 club.
The team began life in the Midland Combination League and in 1994, Barwell were founder members of the Midland Alliance League.
They won the 1996-1997 Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup.
After finishing as runners-up in 2008–09, they won the league the following season, earning promotion to Division One South of the Northern Premier League. Their first season in the division saw them win the title, earning promotion to step three of the National League System. Instead of playing in the Northern Premier League's Premier Division, the club were moved to the Premier Division of the Southern League. However, two seasons later, they were transferred back to the Northern Premier League.
The club reached First Round of the FA Cup for the first time in the 2015-2016 campaign, losing 2-0 at home to Welling United FC.
The side have played in the Southern League Central Premier, the league that Leiston are in, since the 2017-2018 season.
