RONNIE Blois flicked home a 95th minute leveller from close range as the Blues shared a six-goal thriller with Alvechurch at the Flannery Stadium on Tuesday night writes Craig Cooper.
Blois was on hand to net the Blues third goal and equaliser from a corner, a corner the result of a Ben Fowkes penalty save from visiting 'keeper Jenson Kilroy seconds earlier.
It was the finale to an astonishing game that saw Alvechurch go into a quick-fire two-goal lead, through Tope Obadeyi (8 & 14 minutes), before Blois pulled a goal back on 27 minutes and Fowkes netted a penalty on 34 minutes.
All level at the break, Alvechurch took the lead again, this time through Joe Willis with just six minutes remaining. But Leiston's heads never went down and although Fowkes had the chance to level it up from the spot on 95 minutes, Blois duly did.
Leiston were unchanged from Saturday’s 0-0 stalemate with Stourbridge, as Blues boss Chris Wigger returned to the dug out after he missed Saturday’s game through illness. Wyatt Hill was replaced on the substitutes bench by Stan Horne.
Adam Mills was nearly put in on goal by Willie Clemons after just three minutes but Alvechurch got a good tackle in.
In the sixth minute, Blois won the ball in midfield to lay the ball to Cameron Rayworth on the Blues right but the away side cleared the delivery into their area.
Alvechurch took the lead two minutes later when Tope Obadeyi headed home inside the box to give Billy Johnson no chance in the home goal. And in the 14th minute, Obadeyi finished from close range once more, this time shooting home after Johnson had made a good initial stop.
Blois nearly got in goal moments later but was denied by a good challenge from Josh Dugmore, while on 23 minutes, Fowkes was presented a good chance after a defensive lapse, but Kilroy stood up well to save.
Kilroy was saved from Mills before the visitors quickly broke up field but this time, the lively Obadeyi shot just over the Blues bar.
But Leiston would score on 27 minutes. Clemons and Mills found Blois on the right and the youngster brilliantly ran into the area to shoot in off Kilroy’s right-hand post to pull a goal back and half the deficit.
On 29 minutes, Fowkes nearly levelled but Kilroy again saved well before a defender cleared the spinning ball off the line, after a good original ball from Kyle Callan-McFadden.
Leiston levelled on 34 minutes when the onrushing Kilroy came out to tackle Mills, with a penalty rightly given. Fowkes sent Kilroy the wrong way, shooting low into the keeper’s bottom left-hand corner.
Before the half was out, Johnson came out to claim a cross well while Kilroy’s again impressed at the other end, punching away a Mills free kick. The last action of note in the half saw Callan-McFadden block a Obadeyi shot in the box.
Mills controlled a long Johnson kick early in the second half and turned his man but for Kilroy to make a great save, high to his right.
Mills played Blois through at an angle two minutes but the Blues player was thwarted again by the inspired Kilroy. The Alvechurch 'keeper was in inspired form, getting down to his right to save from Blois on the edge of the box.
On 53 minutes, Clemons turned in the box well but his shot was just wide of Kilroy’s upright. Another move from the Blues then saw captain Seb Dunbar cross from the Leiston left but Kilroy was out to take the captain’s cross.
Jez Abbey shot wide in the box with what was Alvechurch’s first chance in the second half before Mills shot just over the bar on 66 minutes.
Johnson made a brilliant save for Leiston three minutes later, pushing Abbey’s strike at a second attempt after an away free kick, over the bar., while Fowkes went close for Leiston on 80 minutes, but the Midlands club re-took the lead four minutes later as Alvechurch captain Joe Willis struck home after his original free-kick was blocked.
It looked like Alvechurch had seen out the game but Leiston were awarded a penalty on 93 minutes, after Eddie Jackson was adjudged to have been fouled in the box, and after a couple of minutes, the penalty was eventually taken but Fowkes’ spot kick was well saved to his right by Kilroy.
However, that wasn't the end of the action as Blois bundled home the resultant corner from substitute Jack Manly to the delight of the home crowd.
