THE Blues put another point on their tally on Tuesday night as they drew 1-1 on a damp night at Bury Town writes Craig Cooper.
An own goal by Taylor Parr put Leiston ahead on 29 minutes but Ollie Canfer equalised from close range just before the break and no goals were scored in the second period while the hosts ended the game with ten men following a late sending off.
Blues boss Chris Wigger brought Jack Manly and Ben Batho back into the starting XI while Wyatt Hill and Jude Frostick dropped to the bench, with Cameron Rayworth still missing through illness.
Eddie Jackson made a good tackle early on in the box while Kyle Callan-McFadden did well to head away a cross in the first minute of the match.
Jackson then headed away a free kick and Billy Johnson claimed a cross on five minutes while in the tenth minute, Charlie Beckwith’s pass was nearly intercepted by Adam Mills but Bury Town just about cleared the danger away.
In the 12th minute, Willie Clemons found Ben Fowkes who got into the box but his effort was well blocked by a Bury Town defender.
On 17 minutes, Bury Town crossed from Leiston’s right but Johnson couldn’t gather the delivery and the ball fell to Ryan Jolland who shot over Johnson’s crossbar.
The game became disjointed as Johnson and Jackson received treatment for Leiston while a Bury Town player also needed the physio to come on.
It was Leiston who would take the lead on 29 minutes.
Batho’s ball found Mills on the Blues right and the player crossed into the area and Parr could only loop the ball over Beckwith to score an own goal.
Batho did well to clear a ball off the Leiston line and Johnson claimed a corner while Beckwith saved low from Mills to his right and Fowkes had a strike from close-range again well blocked.
Bury Town drew level on 42 minutes after getting at Leiston down their left and a ball being played across to Canfer who shot past Johnson from six yards.
The final action of note in the half saw Manly shoot wide and Max Maughn shoot over for Bury Town in stoppage time at the end of the half.
Manly headed wide of Beckwith’s left-hand post from Fowkes’ cross on 51 minutes as Leiston had a lot of the ball in the second half. Clemons and Alexander were dictating play, with Fowkes and Mills looking lively on the flanks.
Joao Rangel came on for Ronnie Blois to inject more pace at the hosts as Joe White and Tommy Hughes were booked for the home side in quick succession.
Beckwith pushed away a Mills drive while at the other end, Johnson did well to punch away a cross and then on 73 minutes saved well at an angle.
Rangel shot just over a minute while on 81 minutes, before Jolland was shown a straight red card for a late foul on Batho.
Leiston tried hard for a winner, although Bury Town had three corners in additional time, after sub Jude Frostick was booked for Leiston, to give themselves a chance of the three points but the both sides had to settle for one.
