
OVERVIEW
LEISTON are on the road for the first time in 2026 this weekend when they visit Leicestershire based Harborough Town writes Craig Cooper.
The point on Tuesday night saw Leiston remain 8th in the league table after Ronnie Blois’ late strike in stoppage time (taking him to 7 goals for the campaign) saw the Blues draw 3-3 with Alvechurch.
Harborough Town are currently in second place and are in a two horse race for the league title with Spalding United. They sit six points behind Spalding United at present, but Harborough Town have three games in hand. Harborough sit ten points ahead of third place Real Bedford.
The sides drew 2-2 earlier in the season in Suffolk. Ryan Jarvis put Leiston ahead after just three minutes but two George Carline goals, either side of the interval put Harborough Town ahead. But Ben Fowkes’ goal in stoppage time made sure Leiston had a share of the spoils.
PREVIOUS MEETING IN LEICESTERSHIRE
THE sides met at Harborough Town on Saturday 28th December, with Leiston falling to a 4-0 defeat in front of 404 supporters.
Ben Stephens, Luis Rose, Connor Kennedy and Joel Carta were all on target for Harborough Town with Cameron Rayworth was sent off for Leiston just after the hour mark.
HARBOROUGH FUN FACTS
HARBOROUGH Town are nicknamed ‘The Bees’ and play at Bowden Park. They were founded in 1975 and are managed by Mitch Austin and they finished fifth last season, in the final play-off place, before losing on penalties to Kettering Town in the play-off semi-finals.
They started off as Harborough Town in 1975 before merging with Spencer United in 2008, to play in the Northamptonshire Combination League. They ended the first season as runners-up in 2009, before going on to win the Premier Division in 2010. This enabled them to compete in the United Counties Division One. They came bottom of their first season but came runners-up in 2011/2012, thus winning promotion to the Premier Division.
In 2021/2022 they won promotion to the Northern Premier League, while they won their respective play-off division in 2023/2024, defeating Hinckley Leicester Road and Anstey Nomads.
The side reached the Second Round of the FA Cup last season, winning 4-1 at Tonbridge Angels in Round One before losing 5-3 at Reading in extra time the following round.
