OVERVIEW
CHRIS Wigger’s Leiston side host Stratford Town this weekend as the Blues play their first competitive games for two weeks writes Craig Cooper.
The side hasn’t played since beating AFC Sudbury 3-0 away from home in February. Leiston slipped to 9th place in the week after other league games were played.
Kyle Callan-McFadden and Jude Frostick should be back for this week’s game but Harvey Sayer has broken his wrist and will out for the season.
Stratford Town have taken 42 points from their 31 league games to date and are sitting in 13th place currently.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
WITH STRATFORD TOWN
THE sides first met in the 2018/2019 season, with Stratford Town winning the match in Warwickshire in October 2018, with Jake Reed and Christy Finch on target for the Blues in a 3-2 loss. Matt Blake scored as Leiston lost 2-1 at home in March 2019.
The sides didn’t meet in Suffolk the next season as the campaign was curtailed due to COVID-19 and the same thing happened in the 2020/2021 season, as COVID-19 again brought an end to proceedings.
In the 2021/2022 season, the Blues drew 1-1 in December 2021. Finlay Barnes put Leiston ahead but Joseph Magunda’s deflected free kick went in just before the break.
Will Davies scored as Leiston drew 1-1 in March 2023 the following season, while in December 2023, Jamar Loza and George Quantrell were on target in a 2-0 home win.
Last season, on Saturday 4th January 2025, Jamar Loza’s goal late in the first half gave the Blues a 1-0 win.
