THE Blues head up to Worcestershire to play Alvechurch in the final day of the 2025/2026 season this weekend, writes Craig Cooper.
A win for Chris Wigger’s side could see the Blues finish as high as 8th in the league table, while they can’t finish no lower than 11th.
The teams drew 3-3 on Tuesday, 20th January this year at Leiston. Two goals from Ronnie Blois, the second coming in the 96th minute, and a Ben Fowkes penalty helped Leiston get a point.
Tope Obadeyi (2) and Joe Willis were on target do Alvechurch that evening.
PREVIOUS MATCHES AT ALVECHURCH
THE Blues first-ever trip to Alvechurch came in March 2019 when the side lost 2-1 on a Tuesday evening. Matt Blake had put Leiston ahead in the first half.
The following season in February 2020, the sides drew 0-0, just before the outbreak of Covid.
The teams didn’t meet again until October 2021, when Alvechurch won 2-0. In September 2022, goals from Will Davies (2) and Wyatt Hill looked like giving the Blues the three points but two late goals from ‘The Church’ helped Alvechurch to a 3-3 draw.
In the 2023/2024 season, Leiston won 2-0 in late November 2023. Jack Manly and Jamar Loza scored both Leiston goals in the first period.
Last season, Ismael Fatadjo put Leiston ahead in the first half but Daniel Sweeney’s second half leveller meant the game ended 1-1, in front of 282 spectators.
ABOUT ALVECHURCH
THE club were founded in 1929 and play at Lye Meadow.
They played in the Redditch League until World War II.
They reached the Third Round of the FA Cup in the 1973/1974 campaign. They beat Exeter City, King’s Lynn before losing 4-2 against Bradford City.
They won the Worcestershire League three times in the 1960’s before playing in the Midlands League. They then played in the Southern League in the late 70’s to early 90’s, winning the Southern League Midland Division in 1981.
The club played in the Midland Alliance and Midland Division and the club won back-to-back promotions between 2016 and 2018 to play at the level that they are currently at.
