LEISTON fell to their first defeat of the season as Rushall Olympic came to Suffolk and headed home with all three points, writes Craig Cooper.
A goal in each half for the visitors from Carter Lycett and Tyler Roberts condemned the home side to a 2-1 loss, Adam Mills had equalised for the Blues just before the break.
On the balance of play Rushall maybe just about deserved their victory, but it was an entertaining game and the Blues played some excellent football, finishing strongly.
Chris Wigger made no changes to his side after Tuesday’s win at home to Bishop’s Stortford, although Noel Aitkens came into the squad along with Ryan Jarvis, with both players replacing Liam Shaw and Ollie Long respectively in the 16.
Rushall had an early chance but the shot went over the bar before Luke Yates went close in the 12th minute but he shot narrowly wide of Callum Robinson’s right hand post. Mills had the Blues first chance but shot at Ollie Taylor from a free kick before Robinson and Taylor made neat saves respectively.
Kade Craig then curled wide of Robinson’s right hand upright but Rushall took the lead on 39 minutes when Lycett’s free kick, found Robinson’s bottom corner.
But the Blues levelled on 44 minutes when captain Seb Dunbar’s cross from the left was met by Adam Mills who headed well into Taylor’s net.
Liam McAlinden tested Robinson after the break but Leiston had a great chance to take the lead on 64 minutes after Clemons and Mills linked up well but Joe Henman couldn’t get on the end of the loose ball.
Rushall took the lead two minutes later when Roberts headed home at the back post and Leiston struggled to get back in the game. Both teams had late chances, with Sayer shooting just wide and Taylor saving well from the same player in stoppage time as Rushall took the points back to the Midlands.
