Blues bag three points to get first ever win against the Saints

Leiston moved back into the play-off places after gaining a first ever win over St Ives Town. In the two previous matches (both FA Vase matches) between the sides, St Ives have come out on top. Firstly, in 1988, Leiston lost 4-2 away to St Ives with Glyn Clouting and Dale Threadkell on the scoresheet. In November 2007, the Blues went down 3-2 at home to St Ives.

Reserve manager Ian Cornforth and Director of football Trevor Elmy were in charge for the match and they brought in Noel Aitkens to replace Harry Knights in Leiston's only change from Saturday against Stratford Town.

Leiston had an early chance, with Sam Wilson fumbling an early corner, but Jake Reed shot over the bar. Patrick Brothers' ball from the left hand side was taken down well by Christy Finch and he smashed the ball into Wilson's bottom left hand corner, giving the home keeper no chance. Chances were hard to come by for both teams for a while, the next chance coming when George Bailey intercepted a Noel Aitkens past but he shot straight at Marcus Garnham. In the Blues next meaningful move, Patrick Brothers and Seb Dunbar combined excellently down the left and Dunbar's strike was just wide of the target. Moments later, the same two players were in the thick of the action, but Byron Lawrence couldn't divert the ball into the net. With the last effort of the half, Byron Lawrence fired across goal with Jake Reed just failing to latch on to it.

St Ives came out for the second half with much more purpose. Ben Seymour-Shove curled wide of Garnham's post, while referee Stephen Bates waved away a penalty appeal. The referee even booked Seymour-Shove for an apparent dive in the box as he went over Kyle Hammond's challenge. The Blues first chance of the half came with the lively Seb Dunbar creating from the left but Jake Reed hit his volley into the ground and the ball went wide. Marcus Garnham parried over captain Robbie Parker's long range attempt, as both teams defended well. Sub Ben Baker was close to levelling the scores, but Garnham saved superbly from close range. A break from Leiston saw sub Joshua Moore pick out fellow sub Cemal Ramadan but he fouled the defender when through on goal. Ben Baker sliced a shot wide with another good chance going begging, but Leiston made the game safe on 87 minutes. Jake Reed worked a good opportunity and his pass across goal was turned in by Cemal Ramadan who couldn't miss.

The win moves Leiston back into the play-off places. They now turn their attention to Saturday's match in the FA Trophy against VCD Athletic.
